Consultation and Therapy for Your Patients
Family Practitioners/Internists: Your patients know you well and are repeat consumers. They tell you intimate details about their health including sexuality, depression, anxiety, marital problems, and work stress as it affects their overall health. I can help reduce your load by being a support to your patients who would benefit from therapy. Fatigue, physical illness, heart palpitations, panic attacks and unresolved trauma and addiction to alcohol can all be alleviated through talking therapy, often without psychotropic or addictive benzodiazepines or sleep medications to reduce stress and improve overall health. I will consult with you to rule out medical conditions that can produce fatigue, anxiety, heart palpitations, dizziness, etc, and consult with you when there is a need to add on an antidepressant or anxiolytic. Let me support patients with medical problems so you have more time to work with the medical aspects of their health.
Gastroenterologists: Upset stomach, Chron’s Disease, Colitis, Esophageal Reflux, Irritable Bowel and irritation by alcohol abuse and dependence are all among common problems you see that can be helped by therapy to reduce stress. Some of the medical problems that are not stress related will cause stress. Patients worrying about having accidents may avoid going out. Their worry creates more anticipatory anxiety. Therapy to discuss stress-producing problems, along with biofeedback and relaxation therapy can help improve symptoms greatly. I am experienced in treating alcoholism, which is a big underlying culprit to your patient population.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Chronic pain is debilitating and depressing. Depression reduces pain tolerance and chronic pain often leads to further losses that add to depression. With relaxation therapy and supportive talking therapy, I can help your patients cope better with their pain. I am experienced working with patients with Fibromyalgia, Polymyocitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Cancer, and back pain, Sarcoidosis and subsequent problems their illnesses create. Paced reactivation, positive attitude and persistence helps recovery. Many patients suffering from accidents, stroke, surgeries can benefit from seeing me as part of their recovery team.
Rheumatologists: Chronic pain created by diseases such as Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis, and working through unresolved trauma, conflict and stress can minimize the impact of these and some of the other medical conditions you treat. Relaxation therapy, talking therapy, paced reactivation and stress management are important factors in treating your patients. Therapy can help your patients learn to accept limitations and to increase assertiveness to get support in ways that will greatly help your patients cope better.
Urologists: I treat Erectile Dysfunction, Premature Ejaculation and disorders of desire in patients. If there is no medical reason for erection difficulties, the best and most permanent treatment for sexual dysfunction is psychotherapy. Eliminating the pressures of performance anxiety, sexual conflict, marital discord that impedes sexual performance are all things that I do that will help improve the sexual functioning of patients you treat. I work with both the individual and the couple in building emotional intimacy, teaching about sexuality and pleasure while resolving the communication problems that play out in the bedroom.
Obstetricians/Gynecologists: See above note in Urologists, too. One out of four women has been sexually abused in some way. Aside from the problems you hear about relationships, sexual difficulties, body image, pressures of parenting, and post-partum depression, you may get patients that show signs of being traumatized physically and/or sexually. I treat trauma with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and with psychotherapy. As a psychologist who works with adult individuals and couples, I am able to help your patients resolve many problems.
Pulmonologists: I am well-versed in my knowledge of the impact of extra-pulmonary Sarcoidosis as a result of my own experience. It’s far beyond the lungs for .0005% of patients.
